AIDC DocWeek and Adelaide highlights

Katrina and I just arrived back in Melbourne after a great week in Adelaide at the documentary conference AIDC. We attended primarily with our film Stingray Sisters. 

A conference highlight for us was learning more about Good Pitch2 - "Good Pitch brings together filmmakers with NGOs, foundations, philanthropists, social entrepreneurs, potential corporate and brand partners, broadcasters and media with leading social issues - to forge powerful alliances around ground breaking films that are good for all these partners, good for the films and good for society." 

Ian Darling's presentation was great - it's clear from examples like The Invisible War, Bully and The Interrupters that Good Pitch is an initiative that really works if you're a filmmaker interested in outreach and audience engagement. Aside from Good Pitch2, there were some interesting sessions from ABC, Screen Australia and a great session from filmmaker Marshall Curry that everyone was talking about. Chris Adams from Spondo (a game-changing platform that allows everyone to profit from video) is someone we'll be keeping an eye on, too. 

We ended the week on a great note showing our Stingray Sisters trailer and speaking about our doco before the closing night screening. We had some great conversations afterwards and the closing night film itself - From The Bottom of the Lake by Clare Young - was excellent.

While we were in Adelaide we got along to the Adelaide Fringe to see LIMBO by StrutnFret which was brilliant. We also checked out the Adelaide Biennial of Australian Art: Dark Heart at the Art Gallery of South Australia. One of the best exhibitions I've seen recently - head along if you're in Adelaide, it's showing until May 11.
